Mr. Fitzgerald was Vice President Business Development of the Thales’ global Urban Rail Business Line, as well as responsible for the Thales Canada’s Transportation business development including the support domains within customer service. Thales Canada’s Transportation business unit is Thales’ worldwide centre-of-excellence for urban rail technology.

Prior to this position Mr. Fitzgerald was the Vice President of Export Sales and Marketing, responsible for Thales Canada’s Transportation, Defence & Security, and Aerospace export business focusing on an international portfolio of project opportunities.

Mr. Fitzgerald began his career with the exploration division of British Petroleum, and from there moved to holding responsibility for international marketing and customer service for the graphic software division of Pansophic Systems of Oakbrook Illinois. Upon joining Alcatel Rail Signalling in 1990, sold to Thales in 2007, Mr. Fitzgerald has held various successive management responsibilities for Thales Canada’s rail signalling business. These included Sales Manager, Director of Business Development and Marketing, and Vice President Business Development and Marketing.

The rail business is largely export oriented, and Mr. Fitzgerald was instrumental in opening the China and Korean markets and broadening the export business footprint overall. He participated in numerous trade missions to other countries, including a visit with several of Canada’s then Prime Ministers, to Asia in the early 2000’s. His role was key in the sale and distribution of CBTC technology to the Asian and worldwide markets.

Mr. Fitzgerald graduated from the University of Waterloo Canada in 1977 with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies.
